Match Reports
Over 35s
We welcomed back two key players from injury for our thrilling clash against Albury City at Jelbart Park. It was a huge boost to see our Captain Mickett back in the team after suffering a fractured toe in round 2, which sidelined him for 12 weeks. With more game minutes in the coming weeks, he’ll be back to his scintillating best in no time.
Yaser also made his second return after an early comeback attempt from a hamstring strain. This time, he survived the game and even popped up in the box to score his first goal of the season.
The team started strong, creating numerous chances but initially struggling to find the quality finish needed to get on the scoresheet. City had their moments too, and they did score, but fortunately for us, it was ruled out for offside.
Eventually, our dynamic leading goalscorer Milky found space inside the City box and fired home two unstoppable quality goals for us. Yaser added his goal to the tally in the first half, giving us a comfortable lead heading into the second half.
Milky continued his rampage in the second half, netting another brace. He and other players had further chances to score more, but luck wasn’t always on our side.
City won a penalty and scored nicely from the spot. They also found a crack in our defense, leading to a one-on-one with our keeper Lee, who couldn’t stop the City player from scoring.
The team got a bit sloppy late in the second half, but we had a comfortable lead and ran out deserved winners with a final score of 5-2.
Milky was our “Grill’d Albury” player of the match with his incredible four-goal performance!
Over 45s Men
After a lot of painstaking work behind the scenes to establish this new division Albury Hotspurs became part of local football history featuring in the 1st AWFA Over 45s match played during the winter period.
With our season starting late & now condensed to 9 rounds the team were keen & eager to be on the pitch & show our wares.
We played sensible football & created some good chances but a cheeky chip over our keeper & a very good goal from the opposition had us down 2 nil at half time.
After devouring some oranges left over from Miniroos we hit the turf for the 2nd half. Again, we held our own but St Pats were able to put another goal past us.
Our finishing let us down in the end. We were unable to slot the ball into the back of
the net although not for the lack of trying.
This is something that we hope to rectify with the return of 2 strikers next week.
Although the result didn’t go our way, we were competitive & are looking forward to the rest of the comp & our next game on Saturday.
