Match Reports
11 Boys v Albury City won 6 – 2
All the hard work , sportsmanship and teamwork culminated in our U11s Hotspurs being declared League Champions on Sunday with one round still remaining for the season.
It was a superb team effort on Sunday with everyone lifting for the occasion. Ben was on fire with his power corner kicks , Nathan was running all day with many turnovers, Riley was so very close in scoring his first goal and drew the keeper out on one occasion to allow Lenny to score. Ryan scored with the header of the year but 2 minutes later Lenny just missed scoring with a Timmy Cahill special, if only they played with a full size goal ! Ruby was as tenacious as ever and is a real asset to our team.

11 Girls v Melrose won 12 – 0
Another great game and team effort from the girls, particularly given the frosty conditions
With almost a full squad available at his disposal, Coach Wilde rotated players and positions giving some differing opportunities in attack and defence. The girls adapted well and seemed to thrive on the opportunities given.
The Spurs dominated possession throughout the match, finding space down the wings and centring the ball well.
The girls were relentless in attack with numerous strikes on goal. Isla in particular seems to relish her attacking position with a couple of great shots on goal. The opposition goalie made some impressive saves, but Alice, Ashleigh (3), Ava (2), Bella, Daisy, Eloise, Elisha (2) and Ruby all managed to score some great goals.
Equally impressive for this match was the team’s solid defence and midfield, severely limiting the opposition’s advances and attacking opportunities.
Well done to all the girls – another great effort from the Team. Big thanks to Mya and Sophie for keeping goals – another clean sheet. Special mention and awards go to Ava, Eloise, Isla and Zali for their impressive contributions during the match.
13 Boys v Albury City won 5 – 2
We went into this game knowing we had a massive challenge up against undefeated Albury City and a team who had only conceded 20 goals all season and were playing for the league title. I for one was not going into this game with a defeatist attitude, and demanded our players to respond by implementing our game plan and putting in maximum effort.
The kids responded and started brilliantly and continued to play great football and apply maximum pressure defensively as well as in attack for the entire game. Every player was excellent and as a team we forced City to change their game plan and eventually City cracked and we ran away with the game.
Goals: Tomoki with a match winning hat-trick, Ava and Jack one each.
I always knew and believed, if we as a team all played our best individually and collectively that we can beat any team in the competition.
I hope now you kids also believe this!
Bring on the finals! #GoSpurs
Thirds v Albury City lost 1 – 4
The Thirds went down on Sunday but not without a fight. Against a noticeably bigger and stronger team they fought valiantly but just couldn’t make sufficient headway. Once again they lifted their game and played better than the score suggests. Mitch played a great game, as did Zac and Jack. The team’s lone goal came after Zac crossed the ball into the penalty box where Ol pivoted and scored. Well done to all, and thanks to the Sixteens players for their contribution and to Helen for running the lines.
Over 35s v Albury City Won 4 – 1
Not one of our finest performances but a win is a win & we will take the 3 points. We were thrown into a spin before the game when the opposition told us that because they could not field a full team, neither could we! Some quick adjustments to the squad to put 9 on the pitch & the contest was underway. Our structure was thrown into disarray & at times we put ourselves under way too much pressure at the back & only some heroic & desperate diving saves by our keeper throughout the game kept a respectable score line in our favour. During the majority of the match we played good clinical passages of football but we need to lift back up to the standard of play that we have previously shown to be any sort of threat in the finals.
Reserve Women v Albury City lost 0 – 5
The team had an early start to the day with setting up the field at Jelbart Park, with the assistance from Albury United providing some equipment which was kind of them to allow us to use their equipment and field for the game.
With numbers tight again this week with a number of players away including our goal keeper Simone, Snowy stepped into the goal keeper position and was hoping to not re-injure her calf by running on the field. It was a tough game playing against the 2nd top team of the division and Albury City had numbers on the bench and senior players.
Our backline – Kelly, Tynecia, Nat, Sara, Yas had another solid game and was quite often put under pressure throughout the game.
Our midfields – Alex, Keely, Em, Christie, Taneesha never gave up and managed to move the ball around and provided a number of opportunities to score and also pushed the ball to our forward – Alesha, we just couldn’t get the ball past the City goal keeper.
We had a penalty awarded to us in the first half, but we couldn’t convert it past the goal keeper.
Thank you to Keely’s brother for running the line even though he didn’t know the off-side rule.
Rest up ladies we have a bye for the last round and hope to see everyone back for the first final (quarter final) at Melrose Park, time tbc.
Reserve Men v City lost 2 – 10
The Ressies started poorly and conceded early goals. Spurs were much better in the second half and got on the scoreboard through Dineesh and Promise. Arjun was terrific in midfield and John Irvine was again outstanding in goals.
Senior Men v City lost 1 – 2
The seniors lost a game which they should have won. Spurs were the better team for long periods but were only able to score once. The goal by Ben Gardiner was a beauty. Luke Dahl, Lewis Parrett Paul Kinning and Ranga had standout games.
