11 Boys v Myrtleford drew 1 – 1
It was freezing in Myrtleford, the gloves and beanies were out in force and for 15 mins of the first half our Spurs were frozen and not in the game. Myrtleford scored fairly quickly and the rest of the half it was evenly contested .
We got a break late in the 1st half when Ryan was deep on the wing with a perfect cross to Hayden who was in the perfect position and did everything right to score his first goal of the season. It was one excited mum and dad on the sideline! Congratulations Haydos !!!
The second half was again evenly played out and both teams had chances. Alistair was solid in goals with many saves and kept us in the match. Lenny and Mitch were as dependable as ever and Ryan was doing what he does best and giving 100%.
Best players according to the coach and manager was Ryan,Lenny and Mitchel .
A big road trip this week to Cobram! Let’s go Spurs !

Reserve Women v Myrtleford won 4 – 0
Well what a result – a fantastic win, we showed a lot of dominance in the game with plenty of opportunities to score, but unfortunately we couldn’t get them in the back of the net in the first half. We also had a couple of early injuries which seen our bench to 1. Thanks to Caity for sitting on the bench but not getting any game time.
The second half seen us continue our dominance with lots of support play and runs to the goal area, which resulted in goals being scored. In the end we managed to overrun the Myrtleford team with our fitness and speed.
Goals scored by Bella (2), Laura (1) and Alex (1). Tho one of Alex’s attempts seen hers score in the wrong goal (the junior goals).
Another solid game by everyone and the team showed commitment to not giving up and persistence to score.
Best on ground with another solid game in defence – Kendal.
Keep up the great work girls and have a rest this coming weekend (which will help some of our injuries) and then we have 2 games in the one weekend to take on Wangaratta and St Pats.

Reserve Men v Myrtleford lost 3 – 9
A patched up ressies team got off to a bad start with our opponents getting five goals before halftime. The team played better in the second half to get on the scoreboard. John Irvine was outstanding in goals. Thanks to those players who helped out.

Senior Men v Myrtleford lost 0 – 4
This game was more competitive than the scoreline suggests. Spurs were down by one at halftime and were still well in the game. Our opposition took their chances in second half to take the win. Joel Mc was excellent in goals and Paul Kinning and Lewis Parrett also had strong games. Welcome to Toby whwho did a good job in his first game for Hotspurs.

13 Boys v Wangaratta lost 0 – 4
Not a bad game at all from our team, we created chances to score but the final pass or shot wasn’t accurate enough to get the breakthrough we deserved. Wang scored two impressive first half goals and then capitalised on an error we made and scored their third just before the break which was unfortunate. The second half we continued to press and looked to open our account with a goal but to no avail. Wang have the best defence in the league and proved it again this week. However, we did keep them to only one goal in the second half with some excellent goalkeeping by Ian and backed up brilliantly buy our defence who were our best on the day, Cody, Ethan, Reece and Jono.
Reminder, no training this Thursday as we have another bye.

Over 35s v Wangaratta won 3 – 2
This was one of those games we needed to win against a team that sits just above us on the table. Continuing on from our previous victory Spurs scored first after a 20 minute period of domination & although it was disappointing to let them back into the match after each of our goals, we showed great tenacity in our fight back to claim the 3 points. The opposition played some good football to push us all the way. In previous seasons we would have been rattled & capitulated. A great effort from all players concerned.

Reserve Women v Wangaratta won 1 – 0
A tough day with wet and muddy conditions, 11 players (just) and putting together a line up as best, coach Townie could do with limited availability! Well we started off strong with an early goal by Tynecia Castles, her first goal!! Well done and hope more will come in the future! Even though Bec Briggs tried to claim the goal and not being off-side!!
We had plenty of the play during the game but we just needed to slow down and think about our passes and not be so panicky about getting the ball in the forward area. The conditions of the day didn’t help with touches not being clean and controlled.
Another solid game by our defenders – Kelly, Kendal, Snowy and Bec B who joined the team and gave us some extra strength, our midfielders ran all day and provided plenty of opportunities – Alex, Shelby, Nat, Taneesha and Tynecia (whom was playing a position she doesn’t normally play in ressies) and Alesha ran her heart out in the forward line.
Skippy produced some awesome corners which seen a brilliant goal that was deflected by the opposition and Tynecia made it count and some very close attempts at goal!
Christie had a strong game in goals but with the cold and wet conditions seen her get injured in the second part of the second half, hope you recover quickly. Thanks to Snowy for stepping in so we could finish off the game, she too got a knock to the knee and hope you make a speedy recovery too!
With 10 players it changed the game where Wangaratta got very fired up with their game plan and was getting quite frustrated that they weren’t getting past our backline and keeper, and scoring goals to take a win.
It was really nice for the team to achieve the win considering the conditions and we hope we can back this up against Myrtleford this weekend, pending availability (again).
Best on ground was Alesha. Thank you to Jess Briggs for running the line especially with your footwear!!

Senior Ladies v Wangaratta lost 0 – 3
Another strong start for the girls with some good passing and movement up the field. Wang was putting immense pressure on the defence, with the girls holding well and catching them offside numerous times. But alas we eventually conceded before the half.
The second half the opposition came out firing with our efforts weakening. We conceded two more but carried on with some solid communication and the girls pushing for each other.
We need to work on keeping our strength for the entirety of the game and our communication positive. A depleted team this week, hopefully our full squad will be back next week for a win!
Massive thank you to the reserve ladies who stepped up this week.

Senior Men v Wangaratta lost 0 – 6
The seniors struck a team who was really on fire. Our opponents were able to take advantage of every chance they got. Spurs played well in patches but could not get into the game. Ben Gardiner and Tony Zahtila were the best for Hotspurs and Jon Cochrane played well in his 200th senior game.

11 Girls v United won 11 – 1
A great game and team effort from the girls, particularly given the frosty conditions.
The girls were down on numbers, but still impressed with their skill level and teamwork.
Ashleigh set the scene for the day and put forward her nomination for the quickest goal of the year, scoring within 30 secs of kick off. From then on the Spurs dominated possession all over the park, both in attack and defence. There were numerous strikes on goal, resulting in some great goals to Alex, Ashleigh, Daisy and Tahlia.
Well done to all the girls – another great effort from the Team. Big thanks to Sophie for being in goals all match and doing a great job. Special mention and awards go to Ashleigh and Zali for their impressive contributions during the match.

U11 Boys v Boomers won 6 – 0
Our team came out firing on Sunday and were clearly dominant from the start.
Every player won every contest and did not give the opposition any chance to score. All our Hotspurs should be super proud of how they played and it was the best overall team effort for this year. Mitch was on fire, and with a Kit-Kat for every goal scored up for grabs he was unstoppable ! Ryan, Cooper, Daisy and Aydan were passing beautifully and creating many chances. Ben, Haydos and Louis were all amongst it and all unlucky not to score a goal, and let’s all congratulate and remember Riley’s corner that set up a goal ! Dustan and Nathan were having a great day out, clearly locking down the opposition. Tyreece yet again proved what a valuable part of our defence he is and Lenny was as cool and calm as ever controlling that defensive line. Al kept a clean sheet in goals and Mia and Jarrod would of liked to have given out 14 awards,but could not look pass Mitch, Riley and Dustan (all deserving winners this week).

Reserve Men v Boomers lost 1 – 4
The Ressies started well and led 1-0 at halftime. Spurs made too many errors and let our opponents back into the game. It was a disappointing to a game where we played some good football. Richo, Promise, Durga and Milky were best for Hotspurs. Good luck to all the players representing Albury in the Bhutanese championships next week.

Senior Ladies v Boomers lost 1 – 11
A drastically different game than we’ve seen from the girls in previous games. The game started well with the girls out firing and full of passion – Jamie finally getting a well deserved goal to get us at 1-1. The score remained that for 20 minutes until we dropped and the goals began coming. 4-1 at half time, there was still some hope in the girls but unfortunately soon into the second half our effort decreased, as did the talk and the positivity resulting in a goal fest for Boomers.
Super disappointing result however we can only move forward from this.
Thank you to Kristy for stepping up and going in goals for us, especially after just playing a full game for reserves as well.

Senior Men v Boomers drew 2 – 2
The seniors started slowly but improved as the game progressed. A missed penalty and a ball striking the goalpost late in the game denied Spurs a win. Ash Hockin played great in his first senior game. Sam Thorman who scored twice had a busy game and Lewis Parrett, Jon Cochrane and Paul Kinning all played well.

Another great game and team effort from the girls. The girls continue to impress with their skill level and teamwork.
The Spurs dominated possession throughout the match, continuing to move the ball around well and finding space down the wings. There were numerous strikes on goal, resulting in great goals to Alice, Bella, Elisha, Eloise and Tahlia. Particularly impressive for this match was the team’s solid defence, seemingly repelling much of the opposition’s advances at half way.

A great match by the Spurs with great attacking play and passing of the ball. Nathan was in explosive form on the wing and was instrumental with Mitch and Ryan in setting up numerous shots at goal. Cooper,Louis and Haydos were all working hard and with our backline being so strong the Diamonds really had no real strikes at goal .The second half was all Spurs and any time the Diamonds attacked Sam,Tyreece and Dustin soon got the ball back into our attacking half. Nathan played his best game all year and was so exciting and pleasing to watch, and deserved player of the match!
Thanks to David running the line, it proved dangerous at times but he saved himself with a Wonder Woman move he should be proud of !

13 Boys v Diamonds lost 1 – 2
The team played a great game and all players contributed to a very good team performance. The team can feel very hard done by, by not getting at least a draw from this game. The back four were excellent and were backed up by our hard working midfield.
Well done team, great effort.

13 Girls v Diamonds lost 0 – 6
A very solid game from the Under 13s who last time we played Diamonds lost 8 nil. We held the opposition for 20 minutes before they got away and scored some very quick goals before the half. Each and everyone of the girls played hard and tried their best against a much bigger opposition!!
Lil was awesome in goals and our defenders chased hard.Awards to Ruby who was awesome in defence, Lil in goals and Keely in Mid field. A great team effort girls!! Thanks Scott for running the line

16 Girls v Diamonds lost 4 – 9
With only 11 players and no subs and Diamonds a full bench the odds were going to be tough but Wow how these girls play together as a team and no matter what never give up!! Every single one of the girls never gave up and kept trying and trying. We managed to score 4 great goals against a team we lost to 8- 1 back in round one!! Great work to Yasmin, Lily, Kate, Grace, Ava, Bella, Laura, Lena, Salli, Paige and Tynecia. Thanks Justin for running the line. We play them again next week lets hopewe can improve and play hard. Great Job girls very proud of you all!!

Over 35s v Diamonds won 3 – 1
This team have had the wood on us for a number of seasons.
After last weeks fantastic effort we started of very scrappy & were lucky not to be a goal down after the first minute.
Our passing was lacklustre & astray. We hung back off the ball too much and created unwanted pressure for ourselves. Spurs were the 1st to score with a beautiful movement down the wing & into the centre of the box. As happens time & time again we rested on our laurels & let the opposition equalise in the following 2 minutes. A well-placed free kick into the back of the net had us going to the break 2-1 up. This was a position we were unfamiliar with!
We didn’t panic in the second half but also didn’t learn from the first as we continued to give them too much time on the ball. They attacked our goal & hit the woodwork twice. Thankfully a penalty to them was skewed aside by the taker. I must also take this opportunity to praise our keeper who pulled off some terrific saves to keep us in the match. Towards the end of the game a well weighted through ball resulted in us out pacing their backs to slot the winner home.
Some desperation in the last 10 minutes proved that we are able to hold a lead if we want to. A deserving result for us that shows we can compete against the top teams & win these games with the right attitude.

Reserve Men v Diamonds won 3 – 2
A really good performance by the Ressies. They dominated the first half but were 1-1 at halftime after missing numerous chances to score. A penalty by Milky and a great goal by Dinesh got the team a win in the second half. Ash and Sam were excellent in defence and Zac, Subash and Lewis worked hard in the middle. Dinesh and Arjun played well up front.

Senior Men v Diamonds won 3 – 1
The seniors continued their good form with a top win on Sunday. Two early goals by Jerome set up the win and when Towny scored a cracking goal the team were in complete control. We missed a couple of chances in the second half but it was a great win by the team. Tony, Ranga and Paul Kinning were really strong at the back while John Cochrane and Jerome had excellent games.

11 Boys v Twin City won 5 – 0
It was great to be back playing on a beautiful Winter’s morning.The match was a terrific team effort with many strikes at goal, a massive improvement on the last few games. Nathan and Mitch were controlling the game in the first half and allowed for some skilful passages of play. Lenny was as calm and as dependable as ever in the back line and came out the winner in the physical contests. It is great to see that all our young players have improved and developing so much since the start of the year and are now all having an influence during the match. Well done.

12 Boys v Twin City won 3 – 1
In the first half it could’ve been anyone’s game, 1 all. In the second half we got a few more goals, some called offside by the referee. We played really well especial Fraser and Cody on the right wing and Lilly kept the defence line up. Our goalies Seamus and Jake did excellent job. The engine room (mid-fielders) did well coming back and forward. Overall we had a great win against Twin City.

Thirds v Twin City lost 0 – 6
The opposition was just too good on the day for the Thirds who went down by six goals. The team did their best against a bigger stronger side but never really got going. They had a few shots on goal but most of the play was in their defensive half. Two players were injured in the course of the game – hope you’re both on the mend. Thanks to the Sixteens players who helped out and to Roland who ran the lines.

Over 35s v Twin City Lost 2 – 3
This is the one that got away. Our side were unlucky not to come away with a draw or even a win today against the top team. Even the opposition & the referee acknowledged this fact & agreed that we should have taken the points. We started off continuing to display our good form from our last game & it was a steady contest between the 2 teams but they managed to score first despite the best effort of our keeper. We clawed a goal back & were then awarded a penalty after one of the boys was bought down inside the box. We then let them back in the match due to some slack marking where they scored from a corner with less than a minute to go. The score at the break was 2-2.
Spurs came out strong & continued where we left off. We frequently created chances & eventually wore them down. Our defence constantly shut down their attacking moves. The killer blow was needed but we could not land it. At the death of the game that sense of déjà vu came to haunt us exactly as it did in the 1st half. A goal to them with seconds to go. A disappointing end to a great team effort today by everyone concerned. If we carry our form into the future we will certainly turn those score sheets around.

Reserve Women v Twin City lost 2 – 1
Another tough game against Twin City the team worked really hard all game and showed some determination in trying to get goals in the back of the net.
Twin City managed to score in the first half from a quick break, but we were able to get one in the back of the net in the second half, a cracking goal by Alesha that the keeper didn’t know where it came from. Twin City responded with a late goal in the second half.
Simone played another brilliant game in goals stopping many shots on, but unfortunately coped a bad knock in the second half to see us make a goalie change. Thank you to Christie for stepping up and taking on the position to finish the game and she did a fabulous job too. We also hope Simone makes a speedy recovery and is back on Sunday!
Our midfields and forwards (Bella, Claire, Alex, Asha, Bhawana, Shelby, Alesha, Christie) all worked really well together with stringing a lot of passes around the ground and provided support play during the game, it was nice to see. We just unfortunately lack some oomph in front of goals. Our defence held another solid game with Kelly, Kendal, Snowy, Tynecia and Sara. Sara saw herself in a new position and also stepped up in the game to take on the opposition forwards.
Well we had a funny moment during the game where the ball held on, on the line and didn’t quite go out but Kendal came roaring along to pick the ball up (thinking it was out) but had the spectators yelling out – it’s not out!! So with some quick moment she kept the ball in play! Very entertaining and quick thinking Kendal!!
Best on ground was Bella Godfrey, thank you for your movement off the ball and running continuously throughout the game.
Keep up the good work girls we are playing some competitive soccer each week we play. Bring on Diamonds, hopefully we can get another win against them!

Reserve Men v Twin City lost 0 – 4
The Ressies got a bad start conceding two early goals. The second half was much better and we created a few chances but could not get on the scoreboard. Ash, Khem and Doug played well in defence. Joel made some good saves. Durga, Indra and Milky also had strong games.

Senior Men v Twin City won 3 – 1
The seniors play really well to beat a club which has had the wood on us for a while. Down 0-1 at the half Spurs ran all over our opponents in the second period. All our young players were terrific-Mitch Anderson, Ben Gardiner, Luke Dahl and Ray in goals all contributed greatly to the win. Sam Thorman, Michael Corkett and Matthew Townsend also played well.
