Div. 1 Ladies 2022 FA Cup Champions
It was a fantastic achievement to make the FA cup final for the ladies, however they were not going to settle for just making it and from the start played some amazing football.
The girls took control early and dominated possession and played some really nice passages to create a few early chances that just didn’t quite hit the mark. As expected, Wangaratta did fight hard and created a couple of chances of their own, however it was Spurs who eventually broke the deadlock with a well laid ball from Jess Briggs to Charlotte Laird whose powerful strike proved too much for the Wangaratta keeper to handle. Not long later Elisha Wild made a nice run down the right hand side before a pin point cross to Daisy Tuksar allowed Daisy to produce a magnificent strike form the edge of the box into the left hand corner of the goal. Mya Carrol then found space in the box and had her shot parried by the keeper only for Roisin Wilson to pounce on the loose ball and put away the 3rd goal. Grace Corrigan came on from the bench and produced a powerful run through the middle of the field leavening the 2 centre backs before brilliantly finishing in the lower left hand side of the goal to give Spurs a 4-0 lead at half time. The half time address was focused on only a couple of small execution issues rather than strategic or game play changes as the girls were already doing these things right.
It was a more subdued first 20 minutes of the second half with neither team really creating too many chances, however it was Wangaratta who found the net with Ruby Snowden picking up a back stick finish from some hard work form their striker. This goal only meant Spurs went to another level and within a minute had their 4 goal lead back after Elisha now on the left, crossed to Charlotte Laird who thundered a goal into the top of the net for here 2nd goal of the night. Leisha then again causing havoc on the left drilled a cross to Jess Briggs in the box who calmly slotted the 6th spurs goal. Jess Thomas then wove through the defence before placing the 7th goal just inside the left post from just inside the box. Mya again had a shot parried by the keeper however it was Daisy this time who was there to slot her 2nd and Spurs 8th goal. The huge Spurs crowd in attendance was partying and made it such a special night for the girls who picked up the first Senior silverware for the Club in 20 years. To cap off the night the team and supporters had partied on and watched a replay of the game cheering on each goal as they relived their achievement. Go Spurs!

Presidents Report
Those of us that were at Kelly Park on Saturday night witnessed our Div 1 ladies take out Bruces FA Cup Final.
It was a dominant performance by our young team and has really highlights the dedication of the squad, and the perseverance of Justin Wild and the coaching team. There is a very bright future ahead for the Ladies game at Spurs this year and beyond.
We were back home on Sunday hosting our across the river rivals Diamonds. It was a great turn out with many results going our way. One thing that is still noticeable is our crowd numbers are always greater than the opponents. I can only imagine that this helps all our players get the job done, and also creates a great community feel that is unique to Albury Hotspurs. Lets hope this continues.
This week we host TCW, always a tough challenge, it’d be great to have as many supporters on the hill as possible.

Div.1 Men
It was the perfect day for football on Sunday afternoon when the seniors kicked off. We had to make a late change to the line-up which saw Ethan Hurley back up after playing a full game of reserves football. We also welcomed back Dawson and Kristian to the senior line up, and Brian Venega made a welcomed return off the bench as well. We fell behind a goal after 12 minutes, but equalised after a missed penalty was finished by Nick, and then took the lead barely a minute later through Heathy, following a disallowed goal for off side. Jacob made a bursting run and calmly slotted in another on the stroke of halftime. Unfortunately we didn’t come out with our minds immediately in the game and we conceded in the 1st minute after the break. We had a fair amount of play and found our fourth goal after some hard work done by Kristian resulted in an own goal. Diamonds found some space again after 74 minutes to find a goal and then heartbreakingly, one in the 91st. Once again, we would like to thank Hurls for his efforts in backing up and we have just made it a little harder for ourselves to play finals football, but after seeing the disappointment in the team, we are sure that they will work harder to give themselves the best opportunity to go forward. This draw has us left us in 8th but we take on 10th place TCW who have two games in hand.

Div.2 Men v Diamonds Won 4-3
We welcomed back numerous players this week, with Benny G coming back from Melbourne for a run and the long awaited return of Brian Vanega from injury.
Hype was up, with the eye on a league title after smashing the old foe United before the break. Unfortunately energy levels and basic skills were down, shipping the first goal with a chip over Kohans head who got the late call up to don the gloves. But we still dominated passages of play and numerous chances could’ve seen us up by plenty at the half, not capitalising on some brilliant through balls from the Argentinian marvel Vanega who ended up just scoring one instead.
Brad came up with some baffling metaphors at the half to try to re-engage the troops who were flatter than a shit-carters hat, and who were possibly caught drinking their own bath water.
We got the job done in the end, as the skipper Dibba pointed out post game, winning ugly is better than losing ugly. Training consistently is the way to playing consistent football. Hopefully the wake up call we all needed.
Goals: Jack Castles again hitting a hattrick, Vanega x 1
Women Div.2 v Diamonds Drew 1-1
Today saw the Div 2 women put up a good fight against Diamonds. The first half started off strong with a good through ball from Taylor to Gabby who scored the one and only Hotspurs goal. The defenders Maddie, Ciara, Seanna and Hayley kept the score tight at 1 all at half time. With a strong return from Grace, she made lost of impressive runs up the field with Steph. Great job from Nat and Isla in the midfield for keeping the motivation and intensity strong. Thank you Kendal for doing an amazing job in goals yet again. A tough battle throughout the game that finished in a 1-1 draw. A great improvement from the previous game against Diamonds.
Over 35s v Diamonds Lost 0-3
The O35s were moved to the main arena and were expected to put on a show for the large home crowd. However they were left disappointed as were the over 35s team. Captain Mickett arrived late and appeared to be struggling with the reality of life. Hence he was not the most inspirational figure to guide the team on the park.
The score line didn’t reflect the game but Diamonds were deserving winners. We struggled at times with their physicality and they also made it difficult for us to break through their defence leaving us with minimal scoring chances and when they did present to us we couldn’t capitalise. Again most of their opportunities and goals came from them making the most of our mistakes. We are a young team and will learn from this. This will not define us or our season. Live long and prosper!

17 Girls v Wangaratta Won 3-1
With a number of girls backing up from FA Cup and several others needing to play the following game in Ressies, this was a game requiring a balance of commitment and conservation. Our girls continued their unbeaten record for 2022 moving well ahead of all other teams on the ladder. Wangaratta presented a similar youthful group of girls many who also played the night before. The game was physical and entertaining with our girls showing great composure in defence connecting well through the centre of the park. Starting with a new 3-4-1-2 formation it took time to settle into the structure however once the midfield connected wide the oppositions overloaded defence was opened up. Alice was first to score with a beautiful passage of play. Tilly and Taylor also appeared on the score sheet for the first time this season with two excellent goals. This weeks special mention goes to our captain Keely who slowed play down during an initial period where the team lacked touch and composure on the ball. Keely redirected effort, celebrated individual commitment and supported team mates who were showing the effects of a torrid FA Cup match the night before. Great leadership Keely. Next we playing Diamonds at home.

Sunday we played our top of the table clash against Myrtleford.
Our girls came out playing from the starts, we had plenty of missed opportunities but still scored 2 goals in the first half.
2nd half Myrtleford came back with a fight, and with 2 simple defensive errors we let them back into the game.
With 10 mins to go the score 2-2, but with true Hotspurs fighting spirit we nailed one back. Winning 3-2
Well done girls you all played well.
Goals Muireann – 2 Elissa – 1
We would like to thank all the parents who turned up to help out throughout the day it certainly makes the day run less stressful and more smoothly for our club
Also a BIG THANKS to Loz and Kel from over 35 Men’s helping us out and finishing off the BBQ so we could watch the girls play
