Who: Men’s Over 45s competition, Women 30+ years most welcome. Mixed or unmixed teams.

Where: Albury Hotspurs, Aloysius Park, South Albury.

Note: Any changes to fixtures due to weather etc. will be posted on Hotspurs Facebook page around 4pm day of fixture, Friday or before.

Format: is 7 a-side with unlimited substitutions.

Slide tackling is not permitted in this competition under any circumstance. This offence will result in a free kick to the opposing team.

In the dying minutes of the match, a late goal by St Pats shattered our cup dreams. Lee showcased his goalkeeping prowess once again, thwarting every attempt from St Pats with a series of remarkable saves. However, an unexpected shot managed to deceive Lee, and we found ourselves trailing 1-0 as we entered halftime.

As the second half commenced, we introduced two key changes. Veteran midfielder Kel took the field along with Mick, who fortified the right-back position. The game unfolded as a back-and-forth battle. Kinno emerged as a thorn in their defense, using his dynamic dribbling skills to penetrate their box. His efforts paid off as he drew a foul, resulting in a penalty that Milky confidently converted, leveling the score at 1-1 in an intense clash.

Our strategy evolved further as we tapped into our interchange bench, implementing tactical rotations to bewilder the opposition. Despite crafting opportunities, our finishing touch eluded us, and this shortcoming proved costly when our opponents netted the decisive goal.

Lee’s performance between the posts was commendable, minimizing errors and showcasing his skills. The central defense duo of Loz and Sam stood resolute, while Cobra, Doug, and Mick formed an equally robust defensive trio. Kinno and Mickett orchestrated our midfield play, weaving together a tapestry of exquisite football. Rudy and Harro exhibited unwavering dedication along the flanks, tirelessly contributing to both ends of the pitch.

Milky’s blistering speed posed a constant threat to the opposition, and Brad’s fearless approach bulldozed through their defense. Brodes, Floody, Kel, Mick, and Foxy all made significant contributions as we maximized the potential of our interchange bench. Though Coatesy was unable to take the field, his unwavering support echoed through the team.

Circumstances prevented several players from joining us on the day, a recurring theme throughout the season. While numerous factors might explain our inability to secure a spot in the semi-finals, we refuse to resort to excuses. Your steadfast support throughout the season has been invaluable, and we extend our gratitude. Join us on October 7th for the senior presentation, where we will celebrate the season, acknowledge the dedication of individuals, and look back on a memorable journey.

A tightly contested match between Hotspurs and St. Pats took place at Lambert Park, showcasing moments of excitement and frustration. St. Pats emerged victorious with a 2-1 win, capitalizing on errors from the Hotspurs defense.

As the final whistle blew, St. Pats celebrated a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hotspurs. The match was characterized with Hotspurs dominating possession early on and St. Pats capitalizing on defensive errors.

Brad’s brave headed goal provided a standout moment for Hotspurs, while St. Pats’ determination and ability to exploit mistakes ultimately secured their win. The match highlighted the importance of maintaining focus and minimizing errors in high-stakes football encounters.

While Hotspurs will rue the missed opportunity to secure a win on their home turf, St. Pats demonstrated resilience and clinical finishing to secure all three points. The result serves as a reminder that football matches can hinge on individual moments of brilliance and lapses in concentration.

Our penultimate game saw us travel to Wodonga Heart, who sit bottom of the ladder and beat us in round 1. A win was heavily desired in our pursuit of finals, so we welcomed Mitch, Neil, Furzy, and Joel into the side from the ressies. We were playing well, but their quick forwards were causing us problems early on which led to Furzy making a heroic goal line clearance. After diminishing their only way forward, we were very much on top and just like the majority of the season, our only problem was hitting the back of the net. Joel, Nati, and Neil all came close but in the end our efforts weren’t enough to win all 3 points. This result leaves us in 10th, just 1 point off 8th. A win is crucial in keeping our hopes alive for making finals, so let’s hope we can put on a strong performance against St Pats!

We ventured over to Willow Park on Saturday to take on 3rd placed Heart.
We started flat and seemed to panic a little bit when we had the ball, Heart put 2 past our keeper and went into the half time break up 2 nil.
We spoke about playing our way and that we were still in this if we played the Spurs way.
Early in the 2nd half we broke through for our first goal with a header (mulleter) from Connor. This seemed to spark us up a bit and we became more and more dangerous as the game went on.
Julian got his first, then a second goal came his way and closely followed was his third to give him his hatrick.
The final score was 4-2 our way and the Twin City Tiling awards went to Millie, Alec and Archer.
This is the completion of our home and away season and we have finished on top without having lost a game so far this year.
Look after yourselves heading into finals and keep getting to training.

After the high of watching Matildas win through on Saturday night there was a buzz around the soccer field Saturday morning. The pitch was water soaked and ripped up from Mini Roos games the day prior.
The sun was shining, and the day was set, only 2 games to finish off the home and away season, the direction at training and pregame was to finish the season strong as we started it.
The girls started strong with 15 shots on goal and 90% of the ball played in our forward half yet no goal score. The half time chat was about stepping up a taking on the game, and making the shots count.
It wasn’t long before or leading goal scorer Amarlie found the back of the net. To Wodonga Hart credit they pressured us in attacking brake throughs and tested Golden glove Lilly to pull a big save. After harper having a short break on the bench we got her back up from and it wasn’t long before she found the bottom corner and our 2nd goal. 2-0 win. We move on the las tfound of the home and away season coming up against the improving Twincity, hopefully we can finish the season off strong as we started and take the momentum into finals.

We traveled to Jelbart to face off against rivals and third placed United on a Saturday afternoon. With the usual plethora of players unavailable the coach went fishing, dangling a tasty luer of being able to play alongside Tuksar and Kinno and be coached by the tactical mastermind Kelvin “The Strangler” Davies, to Brian Vanega. He was tempted but unsure as his knee is very suspect. In the end Brian committed to play after hearing he’d get a chance to toy with United and AWFA legend Webby.
This proved to be a match winning inclusion. Spurs got off to a great start and Brian was directing play and bamboozling the opponents making them look foolish and leaving them chasing shadows, mostly their own shadow. Brian worked some magic on top of the box and was played in for a one v one in which the United keeper made a great save to deny him. Not long later though, Brian unleashed a thunderous strike from the top of the box that was past the keeper before he knew what had happened. Kinno scored our second and we went to the break 2-0 up and in control. Half time talk was to keep doing more of the same, score more goals but most importantly keep giving the ball to Brian!

The second half resumed and United came out with a more forceful attacking play which resulted in them scoring their first goal. Brian Scored again for us and Mickett also scored before United pinched another themselves. The FOX should have capped off the game with our 5th after being supperbaly put through by T-bone but lacked the quality finish that we had seen from our other goal scorers. Still a very enjoyable and exciting win. Not sure if we’ll be blessed with Brian’s brilliance again as his knee was very swollen from playing this game.
We have a bye this week followed by our last game v St Pats where a win will see us finish 4th on the ladder, the highest this team has finished in years. No matter the result we will again play St Pats in the first leg of the finals the following week.

Well what a big weekend for the club, we ventured to Jelbart on Saturday to take on our clubs biggest rivals and hopefully secure our championship endeavours.

Before the game the team was lucky enough to hear from club legend Rob Tuksar who spoke about what it means to him to see junior teams succeed. The kids took it all in and you could sense that this wasn’t just any other game.

The match was a somewhat dour affair as United started with numbers behind the ball from the first whistle and made it hard for us to break through their backline.

We ended up with a 3-1 result and our goal scorers where Connor with 2 and Murieann from a free kick.
Best on went to Cayde and Archer for their tireless work up and down the wings.

With that result we cannot be caught at the top of the table and are the 2023 U13s champions. Congratulations to all the kids that have been involved this year, be it 1 game or every game, you have all played a part. Thank you to Eliza for managing us as a team and keeping the coaches in line (one more so than the other) and thank you to the parents who have trusted us with the kids and get them to training and games.
We reset this week and start to plan for finals and aim for that cup.

We would also like to congratulate the U12 and U14 girls teams who both secured the championship as well over the weekend. The future looks bright at Spurs Stadium.

While watching our 13 boys and 14 girls secure their league title on Saturday afternoon, the tension was high for us to do the same Sunday!
We came up against our strongest competitors, Wodonga Diamonds at their home ground on a very short pitch. This was the 3rd time we have come up against them with the results swayed a 6-0 first time and a draw the 2nd.
With Mia Anderson out of our strong defense with a school injury to her collarbone it called for some structure change from the coaching staff. Mia Harding and Roxi lifted to the pressure of Diamonds attacking.
The first half was dominated by Spurs play with some great football from the girls when going forward, it wasn’t long till this lead from a great ball from harper for Gabby to find the back of the net.
Just before the end of the half our defense was caught napping, and diamonds got the equalizer.
The half time talk was about the importance of playing our game and talking. This half was hart fort, and you could see the will, desire & passion in the girls just wanting the win! With harper going down with 15min to go we looked on the back foot. The pressure from our forward line forces and error from the Diamonds defense and give Sasha a penalty, having practiced this on Thursday night she made sure it was in. 2 – 1 WIN!

2023 league Champions!

I am sure the girls don’t fully understand the importance of the League title and what it means. They will look back in years to come as they get harder to get and be proud as all the families involved are right now!
There has been a long history and dominance of the Hotspurs 12G team in history and winning several league titles in a row and we weren’t about to let that down!
On to the last 2 games of the year now with the build up to finals with a focus to keep our winning run alive and try and go the whole season undefeated.

Presidents’ Report

Hotspurs celebrated 50 years with a great evening at the Commercial Club on Saturday night.
It was a massive turn out with over 150 present and former members present. It is a great reflection on how strong the club has been over 50 years and also how strong we are moving into the future.
Thanks to all involved, particularly those that did the hard yards organising the night, Ian Belgre, Gabby Grant, Jess Briggs and Kelvin Davies.
On the football pitch we have had some great results lately with our 17 girls winning the league. Well done Fiona Smith and team.
And our Div 1 Ladies winning the league with 5 rounds to go.
The Div 1 Ladies hadn’t won the league since 2002 and the results reflect the dedication of not only the competitors but the coaches who have developed many of them since Miniroos and Juniors.
This week we are playing our club games against United on Saturday. There are 3 teams going for the league title this week, U/12girls, U14 girls and the U/13 boys.
Please get along to the respective grounds to support them, this will be another great story for the history books.

Div.1 Men

Saturday was a day that many will never forget. The cup game is a very special event and the team was even more aware of the importance of a win in our 50th year, a parochial crowd and the founding father looking on. Melrose came with the ambition of spoiling our evening but the team was on straight away, Lynchy smashed the first tackle and everyone was up even further. Townie then decided to turn back the clock after 3 minutes, he glanced to see the keeper off the line and hit a thunderous volley from the sideline(some say 50 yards out) to leave the keeper with no chance. Schrieb’s made a dazzling run and finish to put us 2-0 up after 18 minutes and then the “wind beneath my wings” Lynchy rose higher than an eagle to hit a thunderous header home from a corner. Bonners, Lynchy, JC and Dibba continued to repel attack while, Fin, Schreib’s and Heathy were pulling the strings in midfield. For once, there wasn’t much to talk about at halftime except for some structure issues and that we couldn’t let them back in the game. After halftime we continued to dominate the game and when Jack McGiffen calmly slotted his goal in the 67th minute, the hill went ballistic. Townie and Fords had put in a big shift and Robes and Jack came on to continue to pile pressure on Melrose. Unfortunately, Melrose managed to get one back in the 85 minute. We also have a lot of thank you’ s this week, Joelly spent the entire game on the bench but is always ready to be called upon, Cody and Dawso both had limited game time as well but have been solid contributors leading up to this match as well. Thank you to everyone in the crowd for your support and to those who joined us for the song in the rooms. Thank you to the Anniversary committee for your fine efforts that night in delivering such a great evening. Thank you to Scotty and the team at Pedders for your generous hospitality that night. Finally, thank you to all of the players, it was a very special day and you all did a fantastic job, hopefully this is a sign of things to come, in not only the run home, but hopefully a run at the finals series. This win leaves us in 6th position as we head to Jelbart Park on Saturday night to take on the ladder leaders, Albury United.

Div.1 Women 

After securing the League title the week before, the ladies had every right to take the foot off the gas.
However the juggernaut that they are, and the fact that there was yet more silverware to be won in the inaugural Chapman/Iannotta Cup they certainly didn’t let up.
In what was a dominant display, the ladies had about 70% of possession and 22 shots on goal. Burying 4 of them made the coach very happy. Well done to Elisha Wild who ended up with a hattrick and a ‘Grilled’ voucher.
Keely Halloway has been rock solid in defence all year, and today she was again magnificent, earning a ‘Grilled’ burger also.
With a game against the arch rival United this week, hopefully we can keep the momentum heading towards finals

Hotspurs started slowly on the weekend which resulted in Melrose scoring in the first 5 mins of the game. But to the girls credit they never gave up, we had lots of opportunities but just couldn’t equalise. Melrose won 1-0 heads up girls and let’s get back to the winners board on Saturday against United. GO SPURS

Over 35s Men

Six points collected this weekend from a very untidy catch-up fixture on Saturday with a narrow 2-1 win over Wangaratta and picking up a bonus 3 points from the bye v Melrose.

Our Girls delivered an outstanding performance, securing a comprehensive 7-0 victory against Wodonga Heart. The match was dominated by their remarkable display of skill and determination.
Millie was the standout player, delivering a powerful best-on-ground performance. Her hunger for goals was evident throughout the match, as she scored an impressive hat-trick, leaving the opposition defence helpless to stop her powerful direct running.
Izzy also chipped in finding the net twice during the game, Abbey added to the goal tally, demonstrating her continued improvement and a very good scoring record for a first-year player.
However, the most heartwarming moment of the day came when Sasha, an exceptional talent and still an under-11 player, scored her first goal for the under 14s. The team celebrated her achievement like we won the league, acknowledging the significance of the moment for Sasha.
With this dominant win, we move closer to securing the league title. There are only three games left in the season, and we have the opportunity to secure the title on Saturday against Diamonds at Jelbart Park. The game is at 1230 so get down and get around this talented group of girls, remembering that only 3 of these girls are top age, the future is bright!!

13 Boys 

The sun was out on Sunday but there was a few dusty adults after the club celebrated its 50th year the night before. We got off to a sluggish start and just couldn’t make the most of Archer’s relentless work up and down the wing. We eventually broke through thanks to Connor and Thomas and we went into the 2nd half with the coach killer score line of 2-0 up.
We looked a lot more dangerous in the 2nd half as we managed to break down the Melrose defence with Thomas getting into some really dangerous spots and getting rewarded with another goal and Cayde blasting one into the back of the net, Julian finally broke through after a lot of opportunities and the score ended up 5-1.
It was an even spread by the players as far as effort went without Twin City Tiling awards going to Archer and Thomas.
As we look forward to the coming round we can secure the championship this week with a win against Albury United on Saturday, it would be amazing to see as many people get down and support the team from 4.30pm at Jelbart Park on Saturday as this is a huge part of what we have been working towards all year.
Also please make sure the kids are getting to training and putting in the work that is required with finals just around the corner and spots up for grabs.
No fear, no ego, no excuses.

12 Boys Black 

It’s impressive to see such young players competing in the under 12 competition, Playing a team of Under 9s and 10s at this level is a significant challenge, but it also provides an excellent opportunity for them to learn and grow as players.
Despite the scoreline our 12 Boys performance against Diamonds remains commendable. It’s important to recognise their determination and passion, as they faced the undefeated league leaders. Their effort and never-give-up attitude are valuable qualities that will undoubtedly help them in their football journey for years to come.
Their commitment and courage to face such challenges is great to watch, never a tear about a loss, just a drive to be better. As we keep pushing forward, and with each match, they will gain more confidence and experience, becoming a force to be reckoned with in the coming years. This weekend the boys have the chance to secure a spot in the finals, a fine achievement for such young boys!

12 Girls 

With the highs of Saturday wins from our senior teams’ games and the coaches’ hangovers to match, from the 50th anniversary dinner the night before, the day was set to tough. With our golden glove goalkeeper, leading goal scorer out this week and coming up against the unpredictable Boomers it was making the coaches headache even worse.
There was some clear direction at the start of warm up that we needed to win to keep the league title ours. The girls didn’t disappoint the crowd or the coaching staff and played an amazing brand of Spurs football. Harper netting one in the first half and giving us our 1-0 win. Our back up goalkeeper, Tacoola was tops in goals and keep a clean sheet for the team now 5 weeks running.
We go in to round 20, with 8 points clear on top of the ladder and come up against arch rivals and 2nd place Wodonga diamonds for the league deciding match.
