SIX GOAL THRILLER!
Having only played the top team Diamonds recently and just failing to pick up a point. We were confident of doing better on our home ground at Lambert park. Our warm up was thrown into disarray and kaos when Bonners unveiled his new boots which were so bright they temporarily blinded a few players and also created a massive rainbow in the sky when the sunlight reflected off them.
Finally the game started and you could tell this was going to be a tough, tight and fiercely contested match. Conditions weren’t ideal being wet and slippery but there was some great football being played by both teams. Diamonds opened the scoring after a Spurs inside pass was cut out and their through ball found their attacker who had a bit to do and did finish well. T-Bone hit the upright from a free kick just outside the box and they blocked or saved a few other attempts. Captain Mickett, who was having a great game came forth and scored a cracking goal beating their keeper at the front post. 1-1 at half time.
The second half was much the same with both teams going at it and equally as desperate defensively blocking each other’s attack. Diamonds took advantage of another loose pass and bombed it over Lee in goals from near halfway to take the lead. Anything in and around the box, Lee saved or we defended it well. Rudy was finding himself in great scoring positions but was unable to score until his coach told him to keep going, it will happen and to his joy it certainly did as Rudy smashed the ball through a crowded box to draw us level. The 9 million game veteran Kel found himself in the box and with stealth he drifted in and out and the Diamonds defence was unaware of the danger lurking. T-Bone, the other 9 million game veteran, had the ball near the byline and twisted and turned to find a yard and clip a perfect cross to the back post where Kels’ powerful header found the back of the net and looked to be the winning goal.
Unfortunately the lucky Diamonds manage to bomb another from distance to equalise and the points were shared.
Special thanks to Jono for being our club ref. To those players who didn’t get a lot of minutes and to those who sat out as we have a large squad when everyone’s available, we thank you.

Welcome back after the King’s birthday public holiday. Congrats to all the players that represented the association in Ballarat for the Victorian country championship. Unfortunately Taj managed to break his arm while he was in Ballarat and we would like to wish him a speedy recovery.
This week saw a top of the table clash again with Diamonds and we got off to a flyer with Diamonds touching the ball for the first time in the match when they picked it up out of the net after we scored in the first 20 seconds.
From then on it was a fairly even affair as neither team could really claim dominance and Diamonds levelled up just before halftime.
The second half was more of the same and with about 3 minutes to go we scored what would be the winner against the run of play, a massive positive was the resilience of the kids, some had been sick after being away in Ballarat and a lot had an off day but they still managed to grind out a win.
This puts us 8 points clear at the top of the ladder with a tough match against Boomers, away, this week.
Goal scorers were Julian and Archer.
Our Twin City Tiling awards went to Alec and Elijah who both stood up in defence when needed and were massive in stopping goals from Diamonds.
No fear, no egos, no excuses.

In a highly anticipated rematch against Boomers Red, The “Hill Rats” showed great determination, resilience and heart to turn the tables of a 5-0 defeat to the same opposition two weeks ago with a well-deserved 1-0 victory. The team displayed tremendous fight throughout the match, proving that they could compete against top teams.
From the early stages of their journey as 8/9-year-olds in the under 12 league, we knew that the team had the potential to challenge bigger opponents. This match provided the perfect opportunity to demonstrate their progress and ability to overcome adversity. Our opponents arrived at a wet Lambert park and did not warm up, they looked arrogant and dismissive of the younger Spurs boys and Mia. This played into our hands as our boys felt disrespected and went out onto the field hungry and up for a fight, a fight like I have never seen before!
From the off we were first to every ball, we won every 50/50 challenge, we were SPURS! It was hard to believe for the coaching staff that were still in the game at half time as we expected the bigger Boomers side to dominate again. We regrouped, asked the team to keep going, be brave and try and nick a win.
In what was a fitting moment of karma, considering the physical treatment he had received in the previous encounter against Boomers, Kohan wrestled a couple of Boomers defenders and lobbed the keeper to give us the lead. The goal not only showcased Kohan’s skill but also served as a testament to the team’s resilience and determination to triumph over their opponents.
The entire team deserves recognition for their outstanding performance, as they exhibited a collective effort to secure the hard-fought win. This victory will undoubtedly boost their confidence and serve as a motivation to continue working hard and improving their game.
We can be proud of their remarkable turnaround, proving that they have what it takes to compete with the best teams in the league.
On Sunday, I was one proud coach and believe one day they will make a movie about these boys! (It may not be about soccer)
GO SPURS!
