MATCH REPORTS

Hotspurs Black U9’s V AC Blue

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ……..

Playing at the Republics home base Yoda’s (Rolly) young Jedi warriors and Princess Leia”s transported onto the battle field on a cold and overcast day.

The first part of the battle saw the Empires Droids attacking our mothership.  But the young Jedi defended well.  With reinforcements brought on the first goal was fired in by Tom Skywalker.

With our team having found the “force” the momentum swayed to our side and with lightsabers flashing another team goal was scored by Sam Chewbacca..

A cease fire was called by the Chancellor and at the feast Yoda spoke with much wisdom to the young Jedi.  With the force flowing strong we took to the battlefield once again.

With relentless work from Sett Windu and the rest of the Jedi and Princesses, Tom Skywalker pierced the Republics armour once again and then again.

Our attacks were so strong we were unlucky not to strike another blow through a well taken corner from Brodee Kenobi being nearly shouldered in by Emma Padme..

In a last minute ditch to win the battle saw the Empire Strike back with two late goals.

But it was to late as the Chancelor blew her whistle to cease the battle.  Our young Jedi having saved the day once again.  May the Force be  with you ….. George Lucas

Hotspurs Gold U9’s V  Wodonga  Panthers Won 2 - 0

With the Return of the Jedi (Wodonga Panthers) the gold side was looking to revenge the previous match between the two sides and wanted to see the Revenge of the Sith completed by the end of the game. The team had A New Hope attitude going into the game as they had 4 wins and a draw in their last 6 games. The game started well for the gold side with some promising runs in the midfield from Paddy, Lachlan and Harry who were getting the ball wide for Michael. Michael was crossing the ball very well into Sam. It was great team work. Once the defence started to clear the ball out of the danger area, space was provided up front for the Attack of the Clones. The main Clone (Sam) found the space needed after a great pass from Lachlan, to score the first goal. There were a number of other chances however, The Phanton Menace (Panthers Goalie) kept the score to 1 nil at half time. In the second half Andrew was unleashed to the forward line after playing well at goalie in the first half and started to provide more chances up front. Strong defence from Lincoln, Jackson, Alex, Will and Gus saw the Panthers team start to bunch up which and provided Sam space to dribble from the half way line and beat the covering defence to increase the lead to 2 nil. The rest of the game was very even with the Panthers defence equal to our attack. However at the end the Gold side had scored a very well deserved 2 nil victory. It was suggested that with hard training The Empire Strikes Back. Special mention this week goes to the two girls of the side, Milla and Caitlin, who each week display the determination, courage and skill to match most of the opposition players. WELL DONE GIRLS KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.

Under 10’s  V   WODONGA PANTHERS  Won 3 - 1

In a galaxy far, far away (well, Wodonga actually !) the brave Jedi Knights of Hotspurs prepared to battle the black and white stormtroopers of the Imperial Forces. Putting the long journey from the frozen wastelands of Hoth behind us, our rebel strike force disembarked from their Landspeeders ready to restore power to the Old Republic. After a few words of wisdom and advice from their Jedi Masters we were ready to repel the dark forces between us and 3 more points. Brandon willingly accepted his mission to guard the rebel base at Yavin 4 with Garth joining the other X-wing pilots up front, namely Jack Day and Blake. With light sabres humming, it took only two minutes to register our first hit with Blake's centred ball passed on by rebel dynamo Brewy for Garth to neatly finish. Only minutes later a rebound from Blake's great corner saw Brewy expertly guide the missile through the thermal exhaust port to strike at the Death Star's core. Sensing an easy rebel victory our Jedi's succumbed to the mind bending forces of evil, letting their heads wander to Cloud City, becoming disorganised and wandering far from the set formation. Easy pickings for the Imperial Tie Fighters, a majestic battle ensued with our Jedi's conceding a quick goal to the forces of darkness. A number of great saves by Brandon kept our X-wing noses in front, assisted by great spirit from Chris, Jack Mitchell, Lewie and Daniel.

2-1 at the break and the Jedi Master spoke unto his Jedi Knights: "Puzzled, I am, as to why more goals you are not kicking. Why would the midfield not in the middle be ? Feel the Force boys, feel the Force"

Xavier took over the base camp duties, releasing Brandon to work with Garth, Gus and Will in defence. Dom Baker, Lewie and Zac combined to move the ball stylishly through the middle of the battlezone with continuing great service from Brewy and Blake on the flanks. Eventually a great cross from Zac found a rampant Jack Day who worked a neat one-two with Dom Baker before locking onto the target and releasing a left foot missile which destroyed the Death Star. A littany of chances went agonisingly astray including a near misses for Zac, Brewy and a corker of a header from Gus off another of Blake's corners. 3 points and a chance to consolidate our top position on the Galactic League. With a bye next week we steer the Millenium Falcon back to base for two Jedi training sessions as we prepare to take on the Dark Lords of St Pats who are now 4 points adrift and standing between us and galactic peace.

Successful missile strikes: Garth Lewin, Dom Brew, Jack Day.

Under 12’s  V   WODONGA PANTHERS Won 6 - 0

After coming off a loss and a draw in the previous few weeks the team came out firing on all engines. With crisp passing and deft

1-2s our boys and girls cut the opposition to shreds. From the first sound of the whistle our forwards attacked the ball, the midfield were in control and what little defending that had to be done was defused with expert precision. Panthers never got a chance to dominant in either half. All the positive signs were back to start our roll towards flag number 3. A great team effort from everyone.

Goals to Chris, Kasper, Alex and a confidence boosting hat-trick to Jarrah.

Under 13’s  V   WODONGA PANTHERS  Won 11- 0

Despite the enormous scoreline the coaches were not that impresssed at half time, with the defence having looked a bit shaky at times. Harry had a pearler, repeatedly being able to outsprint the opposition. Will, Elijah and Sean were handy up front and were well supplied by Nick B, Tom, and Nick M. In the second half Ethan showed some great bursts of speed. Mark donned the goalies jumper and had a spell after a hard day's skiing on Sat, allowing Sam to have a canter on the field. Shane and Matt finished well and all players will hopefully be in peak condition for an important game against SS&A next Sun.

Goal scorers Harry(4) Nick M(3) Tom, Will, Nick B and Sam.

Under 14’s V   WODONGA PANTHERS  Won 12 - 0

Under 14’s Girls V  DIAMONDS  Won 3 – 2

Again a game of contrasting halves. The first half saw us under pressure, rattled in defence & when we ventured forward our attacks were quickly nullified. Despite some very good goalkeeping by Lucy the half time score stood at 2-nil against. Not promising.

Bring on the second half. A new team took to the park. They wore our Guernseys, even looked a bit like our girls but that's where the similarities stopped. This new team played fantastic. Their skills & use of the ball were far superior to the first half team. They attacked the goals with such gusto that the opposition had no answers. 2 goals resulted from accurate passing to open players & the follow through of shots on goal. Our defence rallied & ensured that the oppositions thrusts at goal were thwarted. It looked like a draw when with seconds to spare another flurry of shots saw the ball into the net. The girls (& the crowd) were jubilant. Praise goes to every team member. All played their best. Mentions to Bec, Georgina, Lauren, Jamie, Coops, Sandra, Stef, Tahlia, Lucy, Beth, Millie, Paige & Thanks to the goal finishers, Jocelyn (1) & Nida (2). Lets hope this New team can play for us again, It's exciting to watch!

Reserves  V   WODONGA PANTHERS Won 6 – 0

Great to see the Reserves get back on the winning list with an emphatic victory. Benny scored four goals in a great display of finishing. Nocci unselfishly gave him the first one. Towny scored from long range and Vids got the other. All players did well with Shane, Kel and Spokesy doing well in midfield and John Irvine making some good saves when needed.

Ladies  V   WODONGA PANTHERS  Won 3 - 0

Our best team performance of the year. The defence was solid giving the opposing forwards few chances. The midfield passing was really good and created lots of opportunities for the Spurs forwards.
The goals were great with a spectacular shot from Jess, a flying header from Liz and a nifty finish from Narelle. Well done to all the Ladies.

Senior Men   V   WODONGA PANTHERS  Won 3 – 0

The men had to earn this win as Panthers played a very determined game. Seato and John cock were great in defence and Drummo also was very good and showed no signs of his disease. Archie and Mickett played really well up front and Chris Johnson worked very hard in his first senior game. Scorers were Archie, Ryan Giles and Michael Corkett. Sound team effort.
